i rented the movie 'devil' last night and watched it after my grocery items were finally delivered. the driver was an hour late, which really annoyed me since i had been waiting around since 7pm (my delivery was supposed to be between 7-9 and he showed up at 10pm). ugh, anyway, the movie was really good, a lot better than i expected it to be suspense-wise and didn't feel draggy at all. unfortunately, i guessed which of the five people in the elevator was actually the devil way before watching the movie, and watching it didn't do anything to change my mind before the final reveal.
i was just convinced it was this particular character because of the way they creeped me out, and it turned out i was right. the first time ever that i actually figured out the ending of a movie mystery in advance. one of people's worst fears is being trapped in an elevator, and this movie illustrates that in a pretty effective, unnerving way. (i get anxious enough getting trapped between stations on a crowded train during rush hour!). crowds tend to get to me.

i was particularly chilled by the last few scenes after the revelation when the devil stares a little too long at it's last victim in a few scenes, which i won't ruin for you. it was definitely an entertaining movie, and being rated pg-13 helped convince me that i wasn't too much of a wimp to watch it alone and night. luckily, the gore factor was kept down in favor of the story and the suspense, and i kept watching just to confirm that my suspicions about the devil's identity were correct.
well, in the past couple of weeks i interviewed for a job at a prestigious publishing house where i would've loved to work. not only because the building is in a town that i love and i would've had a cheaper and shorter commute and the work day started at 9:30 for employees instead of 9am, but also because it was in the field that i always wanted to work in, having been an English major and everything. i thought i was finally heading in the direction of my real dreams, but then the HR person called me and said they had decided to go with another candidate. so it appears i am stuck at my current job with my current awful boss pretending she's the greatest for a little while longer. i guess that's life, and there's nothing left to do but keep trying, and perfecting my acting skills so that people at work don't catch on or notice much that i would rather be anywhere else but there.
