april poem a day challenge

this prompt (below) comes from the poetic asides blog: http://blog.writersdigest.com/poeticasides
they have a challenge to poets to write a poem a day in honor of April being National Poetry Month.

the prompt-For today's prompt, I want you to write an origin poem. It can be the origin of a word, person, plant, idea, etc. Have fun with it.

my response-

origin of night

the plants die down
to the winds
succumbing, a twilight
star emerges first and then
another.
a wandering cloud darkens.

the skies fall into a shaded
hood, the birds disappear-
absent and silent

the eerie rustling
of trees yearning for sun
the gentle trembling
of light coming undone
the quiet hum
of us asleep and in dreaming

night consuming us
sneaking in without a warning

sneaks away just as elusive
daring the dawn
