how disturbing is this article?
Chaos erupts in crowd at NYC 'Top Model' auditions
it's stories like this that completely frighten and bother me. just like those stories a few years ago about fires and stampedes happening in crowded nightclubs. can you imagine the horror of dying- due to being inside of a stampeding crowd or fainting out of exhaustion and dehydration among a bunch of strangers? thankfully, no one died at these auditions, but they could have. i think the only thing worse than being in a state of panic yourself, is being inside of a crowd of people who all go into a state of panic at the same time. and start trying to escape to save themselves. that's a big reason why i found a particular scene in a movie "28 weeks later" so disturbing and scary- it was a scene where a human being infected with a virus is let loose into an enclosed room filled with people who are locked in, and the scene shows their ensuing panic to remain alive and get away. that scene haunts me to this day.
about the top model auditions, how can such a long running show which has held countless auditions be organized so poorly this time around? it doesn't make any sense. some of these girls were not allowed to leave the line to go use a bathroom or to eat without risking their place in line going to someone else. i have to say though, in those cases, they should have taken their health and safety more seriously than chasing after a dream in such an irrational way. how could someone overlook their own body's needs for something so trivial? there is more than one way to go after a dream but given that, i really don't think that the wait for these auditions should have been so long. and i can't believe that there was not better control over the growing crowd of girls hoping to get their chance to audition. it will be interesting to see how the producers respond to these poor girls who fainted due to lack of food or being crushed by a rushing mass trying to escape some threat that didn't even exist. it makes me sad and fearful for them.
personally, you would never find me in a large crowd such as that, i get nervous enough just going to simple things like concerts and parades, and even rush hour crowds can get to me. because i need to maintain my personal space. i just hate to hear news stories like this because it brings out some of my worse fears, things too horrible to even imagine. i pray that these girls are OK now and not willing to put themselves through such an ordeal as that ever again.

Personally, I've resolved never to attend a soccer match outside of the USA - sounds like a good way to get trampled as well.
