the examined and unexamined life

lately i have found that switching from weekend relaxation-mode to weekday and working frantically mode has become so difficult. by the time i get to the middle of the week, i'm somewhat ok. i know there are certain things to look forward to on wednesdays, like the new poem promt on the poetic asides blog, and the inspiring weekly horoscopes on madalyn aslyn's website which i get to from horoscopes4u.com. so i wake up on wednesdays looking forward to those things. every day the adjustment can be hard though. i don't really feel awake most days until about 11am.

and i try to just focus on the near future. i try because most of life, it seems, is about contemplating the nature of life. and we walk around in a daze wondering why we are here, where we came from, and where we are going. at least most people do every now and then. some people do everything in their power to avoid thinking, to find any distraction. i don't think that's healthy. i agree that the unexamined life is not a life worth living.

i've been thinking lately about the copyediting class i'm enrolled in, and when mentions are made about the author of a piece that is being edited. they are often mentioned in passing as being 'difficult' to deal with at times and how copyeditors have to query them respecttfully. and i start to wonder to myself- maybe the author is who i really want to be, instead of the copyeditor. maybe i don't want a behind-the-scenes role. i've been playing that role all my life, haven't i? the only problem is that being in the spotlight is still so scary to me.

i can't imagine pouring my heart in soul into creating a book, and then having a copyeditor tear it apart completely. that must be a nightmare. to have to go back and revise your own book based on someone else's suggestions? sounds like no fun. i don't blame authors for being stubborn or rigid in their corrections, unless their books are completely unreadable.

so it's still cold out. not cold actually- freezing. which makes me feel miserable, sluggish and achy. but i'm trying to fight through it. trying to tell myself that spring is coming. i mean, isn't it? it feels as if this winter has been going on for years now.

hay mi chiquita is freezing in the cold winds of yesteryear. I cant imagine what authors have to go through to get published. It must be grueling which is why my first book would have to be self published. That is if I ever get around to it. I would like to see your name on a book sleeve one day and a tiny pic of your face on the back. That'd be nice. :)
